The ordination rite is the Church's response to the biblical command, "Come and follow me." It sets aside certain men for a special vocation, creating a community or brotherhood of men devoted to ministry who will serve the members of the church as priests. This ritual involves the practice of ancient hand-laying and anointing with oil. As gay men, we are familiar with the laying on of hands for ourselves and others, and the use of oil (or lubricant) to anoint ourselves for pleasure! And if these elements were used as a rite to create a Community of Pleasure? A Brotherhood of Eros? Ministers of Eroticism? By simply using imagination and reappropriating the sacred for our erotic bodies, this brotherhood of priests could look like that!
